Windows Photos: New Features and Major Updates

The Windows Photos app is rolling out an update with several exciting new features and enhancements. These updates are based on community feedback and are aimed at improving user experience.

Background Blur

One of the new features is the Background Blur option. This feature allows users to make the subject of their photo stand out by blurring the background.

“Make the subject of your photo stand out by opening a photo in Edit mode and selecting the new Background Blur option.”

Users can customize the effect by adjusting the Blur Intensity or using the Brush Tool to modify the areas being blurred.

Content Search for OneDrive-Backed Photos

Another major update is the content search feature for photos stored in OneDrive. This feature allows users to quickly find the photo they’re looking for based on the content of the photo.

“For photos stored in OneDrive (home or personal) accounts, you can now quickly find the photo you’re looking for based on the content of the photo.”

Location Search

The update also includes a location search feature. This feature allows users to find photos based on the location they were taken. This feature is available to all photos in your collection including those stored in file systems, OneDrive, and iCloud.

Samsung and Google Motion Photo Support

Windows Photos now supports the video portion of Motion Photos captured on Samsung and Google devices.

Other Fixes and Improvements

Based on community feedback, several other fixes and improvements have been made. These include an update to the up-sampling logic to prevent images from appearing pixelated when zoomed in by a large factor, touch support for slideshows, and more accessible Edit and Create Video options.
