Generate Status Reports in Minutes with Microsoft Planner’s New Project Manager Agent
If you’ve ever struggled with tedious project status reports, Microsoft Planner just made your life way easier. The new Status Reports feature, powered by the Project Manager agent in Planner for Microsoft Teams, automates report creation in minutes. This means no more manual data gathering or formatting—just quick, professional updates that keep your team and leadership in the loop.
What’s New?
The Status Reports feature leverages AI to synthesize your project’s progress, milestones, risks, and next steps with a single click. It’s designed for plans with at least ten tasks and works directly inside the Planner app within Teams. You can customize reports by timeframe, goals, and even tone, tailoring updates for different audiences.
“Eliminate the pain of manual reporting by automatically generating professional, comprehensive project updates in minutes.” – Microsoft Planner Team
Sharing is seamless too. Drop a Loop component in Teams, copy the report to Outlook, or convert it into a SharePoint newsletter. Plus, you can collaborate live on reports, making real-time edits and tracking progress effortlessly.
Major Updates and Features
- Save hours: Auto-synthesize key project data instantly.
- Shared visibility: Highlight wins, blockers, and project health consistently.
- Customization: Define the reporting period and tailor content for any audience.
- Multi-platform sharing: Share via Teams, Outlook, or SharePoint newsletters.
- Real-time collaboration: Edit reports together inside a Loop Canvas.
How to Get Started
Open the Planner app in Microsoft Teams and select a premium or Project Manager-enabled plan with at least ten tasks. Then, navigate to the new Reports tab and hit Get Started. Choose your reporting period, add any specific instructions, and generate your report. You’ll receive a notification with a link to the live, editable report.
“Regular, transparent updates are crucial for keeping your team aligned and fast-tracking project progress.” – Microsoft Planner Team
Important to Know
The feature is rolling out to English-US users with Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Loop licenses. Without these, you can still collaborate but won’t access Project Manager’s AI-powered reports. Also, Planner keeps your last ten reports handy and archives older ones in SharePoint for easy reference.
Why This Matters for Tech Teams
Project managers and teams often spend hours crafting status reports. This update frees you to focus on strategy and execution instead. Plus, consistent, data-driven updates improve communication with stakeholders and help spot blockers early.
Try out the new Planner Status Reports and share your feedback via the in-app Feedback button. Microsoft is eager to hear how this boosts your project workflows!
