On October 14, 2025, Microsoft will end support for Visio 2016 and Visio 2019, ceasing security updates and technical assistance. Users are urged to upgrade to Visio Plan 2 for enhanced features, or consider Visio 2024 for a one-time purchase. Other Microsoft products will also reach end of support on the same date.

Visio 2016 and 2019: End of Support Announcement
Microsoft has officially announced that Visio 2016 and Visio 2019 will reach their end of support on October 14, 2025. After this date, users will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support for these versions.
What’s New?
While customer installations will continue to function post-support, Microsoft strongly advises upgrading to mitigate security risks. Using unsupported software can expose organizations to vulnerabilities, productivity losses, and compliance issues.
“Continuing to use software after end of support can leave your organization vulnerable to potential security threats.”
Major Updates: Upgrade Options
To ensure a seamless transition, Microsoft recommends upgrading to Visio Plan 2. This subscription includes both web and desktop applications, allowing users to create, view, edit, and collaborate on Visio files directly in Microsoft Teams.
Visio Plan 2 also offers additional features such as:
- Export to Power Automate
- Visio Visuals for Power BI
- Data Visualizer for Excel
- Slide Snippets for PowerPoint
Upgrading to Microsoft 365
Another option is upgrading to a commercial Microsoft 365 plan. This plan provides basic viewing and editing capabilities on the web. Users can create various diagrams, including flowcharts and Venn diagrams, via Visio for the web or the Teams app.
“Our recommendation is for customers to upgrade to Visio Plan 2 to get the full-featured web and desktop apps.”
What’s Important to Know
Beyond Visio, several other Microsoft products will also reach end of support on the same date. This includes:
- Microsoft Office 2016
- Microsoft Office 2019
- Excel 2016 and 2019
- PowerPoint 2016 and 2019
- Word 2016 and 2019
