Vodafone and Microsoft Unveil 10-Year Strategic Partnership
In a ground-breaking move, Vodafone and Microsoft have announced a 10-year strategic partnership aiming to bring generative AI, digital services, and cloud technology to over 300 million businesses and consumers.
Transforming Customer Experience with Generative AI
The partnership will leverage Microsoft’s generative AI to revolutionize Vodafone’s customer experience. This will provide a highly personalized and differentiated experience across multiple channels, all built on ethical privacy and security policies.
“This new generation of AI will unlock massive new opportunities for every organization and every industry around the world,” said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO, Microsoft.
Scaling IoT Business and Expanding M-Pesa
Vodafone’s IoT business will scale up with Microsoft’s help, becoming a standalone business by April 2024. This move is expected to attract new partners and customers, driving growth in applications and connecting more devices, vehicles, and machines.
In addition, the partnership will expand M-Pesa to improve financial inclusion across Africa.
Boosting SMEs and Overhauling Data Center Strategy
The collaboration will also develop new digital and financial services for businesses, particularly SMEs, across Europe and Africa. Vodafone’s global data center cloud strategy will undergo a major overhaul.
“Today, Vodafone has made a bold commitment to the digital future of Europe and Africa. This unique strategic partnership with Microsoft will accelerate the digital transformation of our business customers,” said Margherita Della Valle, Vodafone Group chief executive.
Investment in Cloud and AI Services
Vodafone plans to invest $1.5 billion over the next 10 years in cloud and customer-focused AI services developed with Microsoft. Microsoft, in turn, plans to invest in Vodafone’s managed IoT connectivity platform and use Vodafone’s fixed and mobile connectivity services.
With this partnership, Vodafone and Microsoft are set to redefine the digital landscape for businesses and consumers alike.
