Microsoft introduces a new Copilot key for Windows 11 PCs, marking a significant shift towards a more personal and intelligent computing future. The Copilot key is the first major change to the Windows keyboard in nearly 30 years, and is set to simplify and amplify the computing experience, making 2024 the year of the AI PC.
Introducing the AI-Powered Copilot Key for Windows PCs
As we kick off 2024, we’re thrilled to introduce the Copilot key, a significant step towards a future of AI-powered Windows PCs. This key ushers in an era where AI seamlessly integrates with every aspect of Windows, from the system to the silicon, to the hardware.
2024: The Year of the AI PC
This innovation simplifies and amplifies the computing experience, making 2024 the year of the AI PC. The AI-driven platform shift continues to transform how we use technology in work and life.
“At Microsoft, we are committed to empowering people and organizations to adapt and thrive in this new age of AI.”
AI Innovation with Copilot
Over the past year, we’ve been at the forefront of this shift, innovating with Copilot, your everyday AI companion. Copilot has reinvented search in Bing, unlocked productivity in Microsoft 365, and reimagined PC usage.
We’ve listened to feedback and created an experience that helps people daily. We’re seeing incredible momentum from our silicon partners, AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm, who have introduced innovations that unlock new AI experiences on Windows PCs.
The Power of New System Architectures
Together, we’re implementing new system architectures to power Windows AI experiences, integrating the GPU, CPU, NPU, and the cloud. We’re inspired by stories of how Copilot has empowered people and remain committed to innovating for our customers.
The Copilot Key: A Significant Change
The introduction of the Copilot key marks the first significant change to the Windows PC keyboard in nearly three decades. It will ease participation in the AI transformation. The Copilot key, like the Windows key, is a core part of the PC keyboard. When pressed, it invokes the Copilot in Windows experience, making it seamless to engage Copilot in your daily activities.
“Nearly 30 years ago, we introduced the Windows key to the PC keyboard that enabled people all over the world to interact with Windows. We see this as another transformative moment in our journey with Windows where Copilot will be the entry point into the world of AI on the PC.”
Availability of the Copilot Key
In the coming days leading up to and at CES, you’ll start to see the Copilot key on many new Windows 11 PCs, with availability beginning in late February through Spring, including on upcoming Surface devices.
There’s never been a better time to get started with Copilot. Join us in this exciting new chapter of AI-powered computing.
