Microsoft’s AI Companion, Copilot: A New Era of Web Chat and Data Protection

Posted by

Microsoft’s AI companion, Copilot, is now generally available after its successful preview launch in February. Formerly known as Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise, Copilot offers AI-powered web chat and access to powerful AI models. It provides commercial data protection at no extra cost for eligible users.

Microsoft Copilot: Your Everyday AI Companion

Microsoft Copilot, previously known as Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise, is now generally available. Since its preview launch in February, it has been embraced globally as a daily AI companion, generating billions of prompts and responses to assist in creativity and productivity.

What’s New?

With its general availability, Copilot continues to provide AI-powered web chat. It offers access to powerful AI models like GPT-4 and up-to-date information with cited sources. Furthermore, it helps users tackle everyday tasks such as drafting emails, summarizing PDFs and articles, generating images with DALL-E 3, learning new skills, and answering complex questions.

“It’s been used to generate billions of prompts and responses, helping people be more creative and productive in their lives.”

Major Updates

Eligible users who sign in with a work or school account (Microsoft Entra ID) receive commercial data protection at no additional cost. This means prompts and responses are not saved, Microsoft has no access, and data is not used to train the underlying large language model (LLM).

“Copilot offers access to powerful AI models such as GPT-4 and up-to-date information with cited sources.”

Renaming and UX Changes

Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise have been renamed to Copilot to make AI-powered web chat more accessible. An updated and renamed user interface for Copilot with commercial data protection on other endpoints is gradually rolling out to customers.

Bringing Copilot to Your Organization

For organizations already using Copilot, no further action is needed. IT admins can use the Copilot adoption kit to educate users with training materials and resources. Email templates are also available to assist with change management.

For organizations that do not allow use of preview products, the general availability of Copilot is now your opportunity to embrace this AI companion.
