Microsoft and Mercy’s AI-Driven Collaboration for Enhanced Patient Care
Microsoft Corp. and Mercy are teaming up to revolutionize patient care with generative AI and other digital technologies. This long-term collaboration aims to provide clinicians with more time for patient care and enhance the overall patient experience.
What’s New: Generative AI in Healthcare
With the advent of generative AI, this collaboration marks a significant shift in healthcare. The technology will help address some of the most pressing challenges in the industry, create efficiency, and transform care.
“With the latest advances in generative AI, this moment marks a true phase change where emerging capabilities can help health care organizations address some of their most pressing challenges, create needed efficiency and transform care,” – Peter Lee, corporate vice president of research and incubations at Microsoft.
Major Updates: Empowering Patients and Clinicians
Mercy plans to use Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service to enhance care in several innovative ways. Patients will be empowered with better understanding of their lab results and engage in more informed health discussions with their providers.
Generative AI will also be applied in patient call handling for tasks like scheduling appointments. The AI solution will provide recommendations for additional follow-up actions, reducing the need for multiple calls.
Chatbot for Co-workers
A chatbot will assist Mercy co-workers in quickly finding important information about policies, procedures, and HR-related queries. This will enable them to spend more time on patient care.
“Because of all the investments we have made together with Microsoft in the past few years, including the use of Microsoft’s secure cloud, we are better positioned to perform real-time clinical decision-making that ultimately improves patient care,” – Joe Kelly, Mercy’s executive vice president of transformation and business development officer.
What’s Important: Predictive, Proactive and Personalized Care
With Microsoft as Mercy’s preferred platform for innovation, they are exploring over four dozen uses of AI. Multiple new AI use cases are set to launch by mid-next year, aiming to transform care and experiences for both patients and co-workers.
