The Paint app for Windows is rolling out an update to Windows Insiders, introducing support for layers and transparency. Users can now create more complex digital art by adding, removing, and managing layers on the canvas. The update also allows for transparency, including the ability to open and save transparent PNGs.
New Paint App Update: Layers and Transparency Now Supported
Exciting news for Windows Insiders! A major update for the Paint app has begun rolling out, introducing support for layers and transparency. This update is currently available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels (version 11.2308.18.0 or higher).
What’s New: Layers
With this update, users can now add, remove, and manage layers on the canvas. This allows for the creation of more complex digital art, as you can stack shapes, text, and other image elements on top of each other. To get started, simply click on the new Layers button in the toolbar. This will open a panel on the side of the canvas where you can add new layers.
“You can now add, remove, and manage layers on the canvas to create richer and more complex digital art.”
Transparency Support
Transparency is another feature added in this update. Users can now open and save transparent PNGs. When working with a single layer, you’ll notice a checkerboard pattern on the canvas indicating the portions of the image that are transparent. If you erase content on one layer while working with multiple layers, you’ll reveal the content in layers underneath.
“We are adding support for transparency as well, including the ability to open and save transparent PNGs!”
Combining Layers, Transparency, and More
Combining layers, transparency, and other tools in Paint allows for the creation of exciting new images and artwork. For instance, with the new background removal feature, you can quickly create interesting layered compositions.
Please note that these experiences are being rolled out gradually, so they may not be available to all Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels just yet. The team is keen to monitor feedback and see how it lands before pushing it out to everyone.
We are looking forward to your feedback on these updates!
