Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511: What’s New?

Windows Insiders, get ready for some exciting updates! The latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 is now available in the Dev Channel, bringing a host of improvements and new features.

August 2023 Bug Bash

Starting August 2nd, the next bug bash will commence, spanning the latest features available in preview builds across the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels. More details to follow in next week’s flight blog posts.

Windows Spotlight Improvements

After experimenting with different treatments, a single Windows Spotlight experience is now available for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. This includes previewing images at full screen, multiple opportunities to learn more about each image, and a minimized experience. To launch, simply right-click on the Spotlight icon on the desktop.

How to Enable Windows Spotlight

To enable Windows Spotlight, right-click on your desktop and choose “Personalize” and then choose the new Spotlight theme. Alternatively, you can directly enable Windows Spotlight by going to Settings > Personalization > Background and choosing the option under the “Personalize your background” dropdown.

General Changes and Improvements

Camera streaming issues are now easier to resolve with a pop-up dialog that appears when issues are detected, recommending the launch of the automated Get Help troubleshooter.

Windows Copilot

Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel who login and are managed by AAD (soon to be Microsoft Entra ID) will notice that the Windows Copilot Preview is temporarily unavailable in this build. However, it will be defaulted on in a future flight including support for Bing Chat for Enterprise.

Start Menu Enhancements

For users logged into Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise editions with an AAD account (soon to be Microsoft Entra ID), a richer preview when hovering over files such as Word documents under Recommended on the Start menu is now available. Thumbnails will not be available for all files initially, with a later update enabling the experience for more files and for MSA users.
