Improvements for Windows Server 2022: Enabling the playback feature

Posted by

Microsoft delivers the latest Windows security and quality updates monthly. Updates are cumulative. This means that, regardless of which update is currently installed, you only need the most recent quality update to get your machine up to date.

Beginning April 11, 2023, the playback feature will be available for Windows Server 2022 in a phased manner. This feature will help reduce network bandwidth usage by making update sizes smaller through more efficient packaging and the removal of reverse differentials from the cumulative update package.

Enabling the Feature

By default, the feature will be shipped as disabled during phase 1. See KB5026322 Improvements for Windows Server 2022: Enabling the playback feature for steps on enabling this feature.

“The playback feature will help reduce network bandwidth usage by making update sizes smaller through more efficient packaging and removal of reverse differentials from the cumulative update package.”
