What’s New in Power Apps: June 2025 Feature Update
Microsoft’s June 2025 Power Apps update brings exciting tools and improvements for makers and developers alike. Whether you’re building complex apps or just starting out, this update aims to boost productivity and app performance. Let’s dive into the highlights that matter most.
Enhanced Component Properties Now Generally Available
One of the biggest news is that Enhanced Component Properties (ECPs) have reached general availability. ECPs let you modularize logic and reuse it across multiple apps via component libraries. This means writing formulas once and applying them everywhere, simplifying maintenance for large apps.
Unlike User Defined Functions (UDFs), which are limited to a single app and purely syntax-based, ECPs come with configurable dropdowns and can be shared across apps. This flexibility makes ECPs a powerful way to streamline your app development workflow.
“ECPs are a great way to modularize and reuse your logic across an app, with the added bonus that ECPs can be shared across apps.”
Renaming and Refining Data Types: UntypedObject Becomes Dynamic
Microsoft renamed the UntypedObject
data type to Dynamic
to better reflect its purpose. This change aligns terminology with other Microsoft technologies like C# and connectors. Importantly, this is a naming update only—no changes to how data behaves.
If you’re not using User Defined Functions or Types, this update won’t affect your apps. However, developers using these features should update their code to reflect the new Dynamic
name.
Reduce Downtime with Smarter Customer-Managed Key Processing
Security-conscious organizations will appreciate the improved handling of customer-managed keys (CMKs). Previously, applying or reverting CMKs caused environments to be offline for up to four days during encryption. Now, environments come back online sooner with a status of “Encrypting – online,” allowing users to access apps while encryption finishes in the background.
“Users can access the environment while the remaining services continue encrypting in the background.”
Preview and Feedback: User Defined Functions (UDFs) Near GA
User Defined Functions are almost ready for prime time. They let you write reusable formulas within an app, improving code clarity and reducing repetition. Microsoft invites the community to test UDFs and provide feedback before general availability.
While UDFs and ECPs overlap in functionality, UDFs are syntax-based and confined to one app, whereas ECPs offer more configuration and cross-app usage.
Learning and Documentation Updates
Alongside new features, Microsoft refreshed training paths and documentation. New labs cover building canvas apps, using Copilot, and creating tables in Dataverse. Developer docs now include guidance on agent responses, connectors, and Power Fx functions—helping you stay sharp and productive.
Why This Update Matters
This release sharpens Power Apps’ modularity, security, and developer experience. Enhanced Component Properties and User Defined Functions simplify complex apps. Meanwhile, improved key management reduces costly downtime. If you’re serious about app modernization and AI-driven development, June 2025’s update is a must-explore.
